University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, Leicester General Hospital Maternity AHU Replacement 

Project Overview 

This complex “end-of-lifespan” ventilation plant replacement project was delivered as a phased installation, carefully planned to maintain continuous ventilation throughout Leicester General Hospital’s Maternity Department. A key objective was to ensure that clinical areas could continue day-to-day operations with minimal disruption during the entire replacement of the Air Handling Units (AHUs).

Three bespoke HTM03-01:A-compliant Air Handling Units have been installed, offering enhanced reliability, improved air quality, greater energy efficiency, easier maintenance access, and increased cooling capacity. These upgrades are critical in preparing the maternity department for the future, addressing the growing clinical demands of maternal and neonatal care.

Project included:

• Strip out of existing AHU’s and services.
• Installation of ‘Free Issue’ AHU’s.
• New ventilation ductwork.
• New Chilled Water, LTHW pipework connections to AHU’s
• Electrical Works
• Commissioning & Testing
