Project Summary
The project involved the full replacement and upgrade of mechanical services to support the new Chemotherapy Suite and associated wards in the Osbourne Building.
Key works included:
-
Removal of old systems: Existing ventilation, heating, water, and drainage services were stripped out to prepare the area.
-
New ventilation system: A new air handling unit (AHU) was installed on the building roof, complete with new ductwork, air controls, and safety systems to deliver fresh, clean air throughout the Chemotherapy Suite and adjoining wards.
-
Heating and cooling upgrades:
A new roof-mounted chiller was installed to provide chilled water to the AHU.
New heating services were added for the AHU, with modifications to existing pipework in the wards.
Additional DX cooling systems were installed in the Drugs Store and Clean Utility rooms for improved climate control.
-
Water and drainage improvements: Extensions and modifications were made to the domestic hot and cold water systems and drainage to support new sanitary facilities.
-
New building controls: A full Building Management System (BMS) was introduced, ensuring efficient and reliable operation of the new systems.
-
Final works: All new services were insulated, tested, and fully commissioned to meet performance and compliance standards.
Outcome:
These works have delivered a modern, efficient, and resilient mechanical services infrastructure. The upgraded systems will ensure safe, comfortable, and reliable environmental conditions for both patients and staff within the Chemotherapy Suite and surrounding wards.
